Carta de Kristin Dimitrova

Dear Sirs/Madams,

I am deeply concerned to learn that Institució de les Lletres Catalanes might lose its financial support
and independence.

Two years ago Edvin Sugarev and I were invited to take part in a translation seminar, organized by the Institute. The aim of the
project was to prepare and publish a book of selected poems by the two of us into Catalan. The Institute had already established a tradition of presenting modern poetry from different countries to the Catalan reading public, not necessarily favoring the power of the more popular European languages and giving a chance to smaller linguistic communities to share their achievements. The efforts of several distinguished Catalan poets like Francesc Parcerisas, Oriol Izquierdo, Josep Pedrals and others were involved in the initiative, as well as the work of four top translators.
Several pages, devoted to modern Catalan poetry and the seminar organized by the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes appeared after the event in one of the most popular Bulgarian literary newspapers, “Literaturen vestnik”. We really hope to see the book of Bulgarian poetry added to the collection of poetry translations, made possible by the Institute.

This letter is not just about our book. It is about all the books to be published, literatures to meet, people to come together and languages to speak to each other in the future, if Institució de les Lletres Catalanes continues to exist.

Please, you have created something unique, do not do anything rash to destroy it.

Yours sincerely,
Kristin Dimitrova
