Dear Sirs

We have worked in partnership with the ILC in the past, and have been concerned to hear about plans to disband the organisation and bring it under a different administrative system. We wish to signal our support for the  preservation of the independence of the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes under its current status as an Entitat Autònoma del Departament de Cultura, thus preserving its expertise and ability to serve the community of writers, publishers and translators to which it has been so valuable. Our experience is that such a creative enterprise cannot flourish as part of a larger administrative unit, and we are sure that the Catalan language and literature is better nourished nationally and internationally by the existing excellent Institute.
