Dear Sir / Madam,

We have learned that the Catalan Parliament is planning to pass a law which

will restrict the independence of some cultural organizations, such as  the

Institució de les lletres Catalanes whose work is indispensible for the

development and promotion of Catalan literature. As a European platform for

literary exchange, we voice a strong opposition to this move and support the

preservation  of the status of the Institució as Entitat Autònoma del

Departament de Cultura.

Even in times of financial crisis, culture and its management must retain

its independence.
